Before you consider living off-campus, please remember that Hope College is a residential college where students must live in college-owned housing for their first three years.

Per the Residential Life Housing Policy, students must meet established criteria to be approved for off-campus status:

  • The student is in their fourth year
  • The student is 23 years old at the start of the academic year
  • The student is married with proof of marriage
  • The student is a custodial parent of a minor child

Students are strongly advised not to make contractual agreements or financial commitments in the community before receiving off-campus status. Students should not assume approval before receiving notification of approval. The college reserves the right to deny off-campus applications submitted by students who do not meet the criteria listed above or have been subject to college disciplinary action.

Any communication and/or agreement (contractual or otherwise) for an off-campus rental is between you and the landlord. It is important to make sure your lease dates coincide with the academic year housing dates. Students approved for off-campus status are responsible for their housing needs prior to the start or end of their lease.
